One newie apiece from these two. The Throat track (‘Hammer & Thumb’) was recorded during the sessions for their standout ‘Short Circuit’ 12″, and this one definitely holds up to that material. Built around an unwieldy, roiling riff things clatter, groan and rend in admirable fashion, all of it replete with sandpapered vocals, interesting percussive flourishes and guitarwork that veers between showy hostility and mangled degradation. Hebosagil, by contrast, adopt a far blunter approach to their noise-rock. Things here surge and stomp like Helmet caught in a glue trap, the panel-beating riffs and dying-beast vocals combining to form a slate-grey blur of sound that simultaneously smothers and clobbers.
