Uncle Ray - II - Download (2017)

Labels: self released
Review by: Alex Deller

Sturdy, powerviolent hardcore that satisfies at base level but ultimately resides on the slightly pedestrian side of things. It’s well delivered, has some enjoyably fearsome vocals and possesses a good sense of sonic depth, stomping vigorously about the place and lurching into slow-motion clumps at all the right points. The overall sound, coupled with some electronic elements bubbling beneath the surface, make me think of the recent No Faith LP, while also bringing the likes of Chest Pain and God’s America to mind. Sturdy, like I say, and while I likely won’t return to this one much I’d definitely check their next effort out to see where they take things.
