At root, this sits nicely with the likes of True Widow, Bardo Pond, King Woman and Cloakroom: moping, loping, fuzzy-headed stuff that takes in stoner-, space- and post-rock and is permeated by a voice that hits a hitherto unexplored sweet spot between Grace Slick and the unicorn from that old Dungeons & Dragons cartoon. This, though, isn’t the whole story. Two tracks (first and last) feature grand cyclic riffs reminiscent of late-period Lungfish; one track (second) vaguely recalls a solvent-blasted ‘Sweet Child O’ Mine’ and another (third) has a big bossy riff that wouldn’t sound out of place on a Swervedriver record. While this is an odd set of comparisons things still hang together rather nicely, and while they might peak early with opening cut ‘Blood Moon’ there’s nevertheless plenty of weird promise to be found elsewhere.
