Saw Nornahetta supporting Black Cilice earlier in the year and was impressed with the dense, swooping, ritualistic invocations they magicked into life. This EP comprises one 20-minute song, and while it lacks the theatre of the live show it still serves as a fitting enough sonic equivalent. No voice or instrument seems to take precedence, the song instead a cyclone of ragged everything-against-everything sound that seems to rise and fall like the ailing breath of some vile ancient god. Driven by an improvisational ethos … the motto ‘no rehearsal, no writing, only death’ is emblazoned on the record sleeve … means there’s a definite brink-of-collapse feel to things, heightening the a sense of fraught ambience and near-psychedelic clangour they share with fellow black metallers Sorguinazia, Black Cilice and Candelabrum.
