Spit-Take play the kind of indie rock that inevitably suggests Superchunk are an influence and the songs are snappy and almost run into each other early on without pause for breath. The bounce and energy of the opening tracks here reminds me a little bit of Slow Science – always wished that band had released more music. The more energetic tracks are balanced with a more downtrodden edge where nothing is going too well and things don’t come easy (see “How ’bout you” and “Rain-soaked New York”). The downtrodden side of things peaks with “Long For Home” towards the end which is longer and more desperate. Solid album – I was totally unaware of this band before they sent this in but I’m keen to hear where they go from here.
