This is absolutely stellar, oppressive stuff from a trio based in Missouri (one of the squarer states). I could pull out a number of disparate comparisons to describe their sound, so I will! Take a dash of Dazzling Killmen’s panic-ridden frenzy, a pinch of Unsane’s relentless bass-heavy roll and a hint of Botch’s atonal mathiness and you have some idea of where Dodecad are coming from. They’ve combined their influences into a singular vision however. A burly rhythm section, low-end locked to beats, has the guitar wailing away in the upper registers creating an intense wash of noise that comes together in a most satisfying way on the “choruses”. Controlled, turn-on-a-dime tempo changes rule the roost but for the most part it has an evil, mid-tempo churn to it. Older EPs “Growth” and “Impotence” from 2015 are similarly great and it’s all free to download.
