Antichrist know exactly what the score is when it comes to getting the death-doom alchemy just right, dredging up some truly odious vocals while riffs loom, drums pitter-pat like rain on the roof of an ancient mausoleum and Fabio Frizzi synths are draped like cast-off widow’s weeds. If the outcome remains just shy of revelatory then the crushing atmosphere and assured songcraft at least prove satisfying, and fans of Thergothon, Winter and Worship can hardly go wrong. Plus, of course, the band’s crawl towards the pit is sure to be an excruciatingly slow one, so they should have time to learn some new tricks to help them creep beyond their masters’ influence while they chart their laborious descent…
