Boss is the work of two well-known fellas – Jonah Falco (Career Suicide, Fucked Up et al) and Maxime Smadja (Rixe). Here they follow a thread their respective bands occasionally play with … lean, yobby, bare-knuckle pub rock … but spool it out to its logical conclusion. This means aggressively-played 12-bar blues where the energy’s up, the slide guitar slips across your cheekbone like the blade of a knife and the melodies beat you crudely about the head. Coloured Balls are a solid point of reference and that cool Meccalissa cover on the last Career Suicide 7″ now makes even more sense, but more than anything this should suit if you fancy some raw, catchy, lager-breathing rock that could either be your best pal or kicking you in the head before the bell for last orders rings.
