These French riff merchants have hit upon a woozily tuneful mix of grunge and noise-rock that combines Tad, Burning Airlines and ‘Aftertaste’-era Helmet. The pure aggression tapers off after the first couple of tracks, leaving us with an array of headcold-fugged melodies and bright, chiming riffs that’ll likely please fans of Aeges, The Great Sabatini and Gallic kinsfolk Watertank. Rather than something ‘Divisive’, though, I’d say that Rescue Rangers have instead pieced together an album that’s hard not to like but also quite hard to love … it’s not a bad place that they currently inhabit, but it’d be nicer still to see them tip over into genuine greatness when album number five rolls around.
