Fetish - s/t - 7

Dropping “members-of” in a record review always seems like a bit of a dick’s game, but sometimes it just has to be done. Case in point: this brisk ripper from Fetish, who might be a new(ish) name but features some old heads: Thee Slayer Hippy, Vegetable and Brandon Bentley who’ve all served time with Poison Idea, along with three fellas from premiere PI tribute act Long Knife. Unsurprisingly, there’s a definite whiff of Poison Idea about the place, with lead track ‘Take The Knife’ barrelling rudely along with thick, full-blooded riffs, ravening vocals and a ragged sense of bombast. If this one sounds like something thrown from the carriage while ‘Feel The Darkness’ was being constructed the song on the flip is a bit of a surprise: a faithful … albeit gruffer … take on Love classic ‘A House Is Not A Motel’. Quite why it takes six people to bring this racket to bear is anyone’s guess, but, heck, you’ve got to admit that they’re onto something…
