Gurgly death-grind played by people who’ve been around for a while. Long enough, in fact, that they should really know that the drums here just sound plain wrong. Seriously, everything else here is stodgily on-point, but the drums … and the snare in particular … just drag you bodily out of the moment and beg you to take too much notice of them in the most eye-jabbing way possible. Maybe it’s a statement thing, to make the music all the more difficult and uncompromising? Or perhaps a lifetime of heavy metal has ruined their hearing to the extent they can’t here treble anymore? I don’t know, and I frankly can’t believe I’m spending this much time labouring a point about the drum sound on a grindcore record when I should really be in bed and desperately trying to recalibrate after a week of little joy and even less sleep. Gah!
