Troll are an odd band. A very odd band. They play epic, lugubrious doom of a classic type (think Candlemass and Warning, with maybe a sprinkling of Free) that trudges tunefully along while telling rather tall tales. While it’s all too easy for trad doom to slip into something that sounds hackneyed or hammy, the expansive gestures and dramatic approach that Troll employ rings utterly true, keeping you engaged and engrossed as they loose dirge after mournful dirge like so many flaming longboats set adrift in the endless oil-dark sea.
