Juju share DNA with the excellent Lay Llamas, but while they could also be pigeonholed as ‘psych’ there’s considerably more at play here. The band’s kaleidoscopic sonic exploration takes in space-rock, electronica and afrobeat as it swirls and soars, with urgent, crinkly funk slipping alongside blurrily crooned vocals and immersive electronic abstractions. Things reach a giddy climax with the woozy one-two of ‘God Is A Rover’ and ‘Archontes Take Control’, gleefully closing off the record with a disintegrating rainbow of fizzling particles and effervescent sax echoes.Â
