Really great slab of raw, rangy crust from Finland here. Everything has that dirty, serrated feel to it, but amid the pure snarl n’ blast there’s a keen dynamic edge: melodies snake in and out of the whirling maelstrom, and the band know exactly when to hold back and linger over a riff and when to go at it hammer and tong. A very rough comparison would be Herätys having a go at some From Ashes Rise tunes … an intriguing prospect and one that could easily go awry if they laboured the latter element too hard, but right here the mix is absolutely spot-on. Now to check what they’ve released since, and see if they’ve maintained the same brilliant, ravening balance…
