Bit of an oddball one from these longstanding metallers: a four-track EP of bombastic, crusty death n’ roll into which they’ve lobbed a couple of unexpected covers (‘Lungs’ by Townes Van Zandt and ‘Kamikaze’ by Flower Travellin’ Band … bold choices both). Snakey melodies writhe all over the shop and the rasping vocals remain cogent rather than guttural, while the simple, surging riffs are more 90s Metallica than ‘Left Hand Path’. Things teeter on the brink of corniness and sometimes tumble headfirst in, but despite the silliness it’s also kind of enjoyable … maybe not one for you if you’re only a fan of the band’s earliest Blood Harvest material, but if you can reconcile the fact that they feature members of both God Macabre and Puffball then you might just be in business.
