This is a solo project from Pete Avery of C’est Dommage, a rather under-rated band who you may have come across on these pages before. It appears to be a collection of songs recorded at various times over the past few years. “The Bear Has Fire, West Point, CA” is a repetitious opener, guitars strummed, it’s the kind of low-key beauty that I’ve been listening to a lot lately, anything to ease those anxiety crammed days a little. More of this kind of thing please Pete! “Leave the Lights On” appears to be from 2012 and sounds possibly like a live recording. “Hawkeye Point, Sibley, IA” is a bombastic outpouring very much in the vein of C’est Dommage and definitely the most emo of the tracks on here, with some great spoken vocals in places. “What They Never Knew” is meandering, downbeat, kind of a Lync / Polvo-y type jam. Also great. I like that these 4 songs are all so different, showcasing directions that Pete could easily spin off in. Do an album in album in each of the styles of tracks 1, 3, and 4, is my tip. Really good tape.
