Resin Tomb’s brief, savage five-track debut makes me think of a scene in a horror film where a colony of bats are disturbed and several unfortunate fools are enveloped in a bewildering tornado of shrieks, teeth and ragged membranous wings. Black metal, death metal and grind collide in an ugly confusion of sound, with gnashed-up vocals gargling amid tremolo-picked hellscapes and huge seasick riffs that rise and fall like the scarred chest of a battle-weary titan. Bands like Ulcerate, Dephosphorus and Thantifaxath all spring to mind, and the fact that there’s some sort of shared lineage between this band and labelmates Snorlax also makes a lot of sick sense.
