Having just one song by The Body to wrassle with feels weird … it’s obviously harrowing and unpleasant, but the brevity of the experience leaves you feeling like something is missing. Doesn’t the pain usually last, like, a while? Anyway, their song here … the brilliantly-titled ‘Child Liar’ … is not a million miles away from seeing them live: an electrical storm of chaotic clatter, sideways sheets of wind-tattered riff and ceaseless squalls of vocal torment. Bummer, by contrast, are fairly easy to pin down. The riffing snaps like some sort of cruel trap and the vocals are nicely parched, with only some slight concessions made to elbow room and breathability. It reminds me quite a bit of Eye Flys in its compactness and brusqueness of delivery … a bitter, burped-up mouthful that could just as easily be swallowed back down as spat discretely into a handkerchief.
