Scratchy, spry and nimble, the second EP from Spain’s Palmar De Troya might only comprise five tracks but it sure covers some ground. It’s propulsive and packs a punch when it needs to, but seems more content to jump between shattered glass guitar parts and smeared out vocals in a manner that’s a little bit Siouxsie, a little bit Sick Lipstick and a little bit Blood Brothers. Things skulk and creep; scuttly guitar lines cobwebbed over by the kind of spooky organs sounds that recall the likes of The Murder City Devils, Pleasure Forever and Milemarker. Initially I was a bit nonplussed since I’d been in the mood for something thicker and uglier (it was released by Reptilian Records, after all…), but I’ve rather come around to it – perhaps the thing’s left an egg sac somewhere in the rotting crevices my brain, and I’m now pheremonally programmed to feel protective.
