Given the people involved it should come as no surprise that Grim Harvest’s demo sounds so assured and fully-formed, but shit me if it wasn’t still a punch to the face. The six songs here are positively torrential: a maelstrom of barely-constrained brutality that touches base with death metal, grind, black metal and screamo as though it were the most natural thing in the world. Scalding feedback and blasting riffs merge with parched gurgles to create unruly new forms, while ‘Petrichor’ chucks in some mid-paced lunging and ‘Days Of Misrule’ even manages to lob in a cheeky melodic section that wouldn’t sound out of place if played by Peu Être or Anomie. One minute I’m forced to recall being nailgunned to the wall (sonically, not literally) while watching Concrete Winds, at others the vibe is more akin to the molten sounds of Acme, Uranus or first-album Mörser. Whichever way you turn it, the thing is bloody furious – a savage and exciting statement of intent that promises very exciting things indeed.
