Seems like Clifford Dinsmore (Bl’ast!, Gargantula, Spaceboy etc.) is on a bit of a tear, providing vox for a new Seized Up record last year and now fronting the first Dusted Angel LP in a decade and a half. The sound here is a bit thinner and less bombed out than on ‘Earth-Sick Mind’, but at the same time it’s also more distinctive. Over the course of eight loping tracks the band balance the easy rollin’ stoner grooves of early Nebula with Pink Floyd spaciness and a sense of disjointed, Black Flaggish angularity that keeps things from slipping into the background. Dinsmore sounds craggy and pissed off but is tuneful with it, helping maintain an adrenalised sense of tension even when the riffs are buttery smooth – effectively reminding us all why it made so much sense for Saint Vitus to release records on SST all those years ago.
