Dick Spikie? Sounds painful, mate.
Japes aside, though, this is pretty ripping! Lead track ‘Restriction & Freedom’ is a raucous, high-energy number, driven by a great melodic guitar part and gruff, barely-in-control vocals. To me it sounds like a mix-it-up of Sham 69 and Stiff Little Fingers with the gargling greatness of Leatherface.
If the A-side is the party the night before, then the flip is definitely the grumpy hangover the morning after. Here they bash out two tracks that maintain the pogo punk vibes but sandblast them with a sense of belligerent UK82 attitude, with the blunt-force titles (‘No More War’ and ‘You’re A Bastard’) telling you everything you need to know. After the good times of ‘Restriction & Freedom’ these come at you like a maniac wanting to take a scouring pad to your brain, and while you might miss the melody they certainly do the job just right.
Great EP!
