Color My Iris - Ending Harmony - CD (2003)

Labels: First Stance
Review by: Nadia Almashoor

What gives with the sudden proliferation of “emo” bands in
Malaysia who aim to be the next Mineral or Sunny Day
Real Estate? I haven’t got the faintest idea. While I
appreciate that there is an existing “emo scene”, and
while they may be influenced by good bands, they
should definitely enroll themselves in:

i) Proper emo lessons (best conducted by Collective’s
resident emo_bastard otherwise known as Andy Malcolm).
ii) English lessons, especially in grammar (best
conducted by Cambridge stuntman Martin Brown and
Scrabble champion Alex Deller).

Ok, I am being too harsh. The music is not too bad and
a bit shoegazer-esque a la Italian band Sybil. Even the
final track ‘Ending Harmony’ has hints of Smashing
Pumpkins. (I do like Smashing Pumpkins though). And
maybe the lyrics are metaphorical. But honestly,
what’s so metaphorical about ‘Living a World Full of
Wow’? Beats me. Middle class adolescents and their
ephemeral infatuations. Oh and a couple more things:

1.It’s colour not color.
2.And eight minute songs only work well if you’re
Slint.

Whatever.
