Russ’ second attempt to review an emo album. Ok I just put this on and it seems a lot heavier than what I rembered it being. Not to worry because this is just damn fine emo-rock. No lyrics in the inlay (damn it – why not?). Eleven tracks, 45 minutes long. This is really good. I know so little about emo that I don’t really know what bands I could bring in as comparisons. This could be completely wrong but I think it sounds a little like Cap ‘n Jazz or maybe Braid. How about Burning Airlines or Jawbox? I think that maybe you are getting the idea. Or did I just completely confuse everybody?
Right then, the sound. This has drive, baby! It just rocks out from track one and never stops. This really is quite a special record. To me anyway. I really do like this, and the guitar work is just incredible. The riffs are so damn neat and complex that it really is quite astounding. This isn’t one of those emo records that’s been glossed up and over produced, this has quite a raw sound and I do think that definitely prefer that. I mean the guitars really do get quite heavy at times. But the vocals are supreme. Some of the best vocals that I have heard in quite some time. In fact this is one of the best things that I have heard in quite some time. awesome vocals + awesome songs = awesome album.
I think that this is bloody good record. Ok, so I don’t know who or what they sound like. But I do know that this is good. Hmmm, do you see a pattern forming yet? Inept reviewer who doesn’t know what he’s talking about, but likes the music none the less. Did you spot that yet? Either way, this is really quite ace.
