this is a strange little thing. i know synths and keyboards and general dodgy stuff is in fashion so i guess i should have expected it.
the cd starts with the most normal song, a grungy bass line leads the way into percussion and typical undistorted emo guitars. it builds up nicely, with congas, glockenspiels, and the instrument they made me play at primary school, the triangle. then, when the singing eventually arrives, the song goes wrong, but in a good way, sort of downbeat jazz.
and then the synth kicks in.
the cd slowly progresses more and more synthy throughout until at the end we have drum samples looped with dodgy effects as well. somwhere, though im not sure where exactly, this reminds me of joan of arc, but without the dodgy vocals, it has nice parts to it that also remind me of american football, especially the second song ‘roanoke born’. I like this cd, but as i said to Andy, maybe i should have waited a little before reveiwing it, as it seems like the kind of record that would take a while to get into.
