Dagobah, aside from being that dark and damp place originally envisioned by Sir Lucas himself, are in this case three blokes playing fast-paced pop-punk. And with a fair appreciation of cult TV judging by the appearance of the A-Team on the cover of this 5 track 7″
First track ‘You Don’t Know Me’ clocks in at well under 2 minutes in which its builds on a slow opening to mutate into an excellent energy-packed punk-pop song. In comparison ‘Word 6.0’ is not so great while if the Backyard Babies ever shifted musical direction and became a punk-rock band then they’d probably play songs like ‘Mystery Women’. With lyrics like “What time is rock? What time is love” paired with funny howls the picture is disturbingly complete.
‘Real Eyes’ has the most excessively fast drums I’ve ever heard – and they sound crap. Maybe that’s just the way it was produced. Maybe its intended. The song actually improves dramatically for a short while when they slow everything down towards the end but by then it’s too late.
‘Sick Of Everything’ contains some harder guitar riffs and has a more darker feel to it. In what seems like a trend with Dagobah the song starts quietly before kicking in to a pretty good punk-rock number. When it works it sounds great – but when it doesn’t you wonder why the band don’t just play in the same way they seem to start every track. The slower guitar and vocals display promise which sometimes seems to be crushed underfoot by the arrival of Dagobah’s older and bigger punk-rock brother.
‘Good Rockin Tonight’ has some good moments – but come closing time the end result is pretty average.
