Kid Dynamite - Shorter, Faster, Louder - LP (2000)

Labels: Jade Tree Records
Review by: Ian Cavell

Well Kid Dynamite are no more but praise the powers that be that got around to recording Shorter, Faster, Louder before they called it a day. It only took a couple of plays for these songs to sink in and since then none of my other records have had a look in. For those not in the know the Kid Dynamite sound is a potent force indeed. Taking the best elements of Lifetime and Dillinger 4 but wrapping it up in a sound that combines all the full-on intensity of your favourate hardcore bands with the melodic tendencies of the aforementioned outfits. Yes, this album is a must hear. And if the music is a must hear the lyric sheet is a must read as Kid Dynamite do the anti-capitalist, anti-work, anti-a-lot-of-other-stuff tirade without the lyrics sounding tired and old (although they could really have done without the ropey female vocals on ‘Three’s A Party’ – I not like).

The songs that totally blew me away were ‘Rufus Wants A Hug’ (with the line : “we care, we’ll fight this, we don’t want to see the world die”; Kid Dynamite create the perfect anthem), ‘Cheap Shot Youth Anthem’ and the very touching ‘S.O.S.’. This is an early contender for album of the year so get your ass over to jade tree and get yourself a copy of this – its fucking awesome.
