Labels: Snuffy Smile

Another split 7″ from the mighty Snuffy Smile, except one band on here towers so menacingly above the other that it’s like, uh, not fair or something.
The band doing the towering is the lovely Lovemen. “River” is cutesy emo pop with slight punkish tendencies in there. Lovemen obviously dig the Promise Ring and other practitioners of all that is good about the pop that lurks in emo. It’s backed with “Close Monday” which is deleriously great, kicking in with a great chugga-pop riff to get you doing some emo swaying and nodding. Mega harmonies and twinkly jangles too. I’d suggest these are probably their best two songs this side of “…This Life”.
The band being towered over are the montrously average Italians, Eversor. “Just One Second” is poppy and pretty fast, but the weak vocals let it down. It probably sounds like Gameface. “Tried And Failed” has a real rock intro, like Texas Is The Reason gone ungreat. Then it all goes fast and non-descript. There’s nothing wrong with this music, it just doesn’t groove me. Melodic hardcore kids will probably dig them with spades.
Lovemen wins!
