Phillipe - Misamee - 7

Labels: Flowerviolence

Wow, this is such a nicely packaged record. A cool card cover, and a foldout, glossy, colour insert with the lyrics printed on it.

The music ain’t bad either. The singing style is that kind of desperate, screamy, falling about, verge of tears, emo stuff. And Phillipe do it pretty well, although I haven’t heard many bands that do this sort of thing. The music style they go in for is um, sort of hard to decide on a category for. It’s not that it’s wild and different, um. Yeah, it is emo, but not in the way that 1999 emo is – i.e. indie. It’s melodic, and is also rock, but it’s a far more angular take on rock with unpredictable guitar parts and lots of hysterical vox. I guess that if you cross the vocals with the music you’re getting a sort of Rites of Spring / Moss Icon take on things, but they aren’t overly similar.

This is very cool indeed, particularly if you, like me, haven’t really heard much in this style before. Acquire. And you got to love the name of the record label too.
