Planes Mistaken For Stars - Fucking Fight - 7

Labels: Dim Mak
Review by: Andy Malcolm

I allowed myself to buy this PMFS 7″ because it’s not on Deep Elm. Ha ha! Of course not, what do you take me for, some kind of label fascist? Spot on! Ha ha! No, actually, I am getting their latest Deep Elm released CDEP. But only because it’s costing me a paltry £2. *grin* Deep Elm refer to this release in their catalogue as “F*cking Fight” by the way. Start the revolution!

Wow, there are a lot of people that will go absolutely ape over this, “Fucking Fight” is pure rock influenced hardcore with superfast guitars and drums. Even I like it a lot, except for the vocals. Which are absolute toss! Kick that singer out now. He sounds like if Chuck Hot Water Music lost his voice. The fastest parts are cool, and they have yelled back up vocals. Personally, I would not label this as screamo, as it is too ROCK, but other people might, that’s up to them. They have some smart emo feedback at the start of flip-side “The Part You Left Out”, but alas they let the side down by being a bit too clean sounding overall. This time they have that yelling backup vocalist screeching reminiscent of Saetia, but not as good. The sound? Fastish, screamy melodic hardcore. There is a sung part where the vocals are painful.Yes, my verdict is in, replace all of your vocalists, and you’ll be a good band. Till, then, mediocre.

No damn inserts, you bastards.
