Rainer Maria - The Hal Al Shedad - Post Marked Stamps #9 - 7

Labels: Tree
Review by: Andy Malcolm

Sometimes I wonder. I knew the tracks on here were going to be available soon on a Tree comp, but I still couldn’t help myself. But hey, I’m a fool for Rainer Maria, so to pass up the opportunity to get a new song by them in the awesome presentation of the Post Marked Stamps series was not something I was going to be able to hold out against for too long.

True to form, Rainer Maria offer up another slice of pure perfection that is their own awesome brand of sorrowful sounding emo indie. As ever, Caitlyn and Kyle weave those vocals, moving from soothing and minimal to powerful and heart wrenching at an instant. Although the track would sound even better amongst their others rather than isolated an alone, it is testament to their brilliance that this stands so well on it’s own.

Hal Al Shedad on the other hand do emo. The sort that is probably where the genre got it’s name from. Desperate vocals, sounding on the verge of breaking down or something. I’m not too enthused about it to be honest.

R|M – surely one of the worlds best. Hal Al Shedad – whatever.
