I remember being super interested to hear the Wolves LP because I heard some demo MP3’s a couple of years ago, and then I got it, played it twice and forgot I had it. Then this 7″ comes out and I am super interested to hear the band Ampere now, so I got this too. And then I found that the Wolves stuff is really, really, really good. I ought to go back to the LP if I have time and give it another chance if it sounds anything like this. Wolves offer up a pair of great tracks of dynamic, well, emo or hardcore I guess (depending on your preference for terminology), but the cool thing about this is that it doesn’t make me automatically say “oh, these guys sound like blah blah blah” because they don’t. They have their own thing going on. Herky-jerky rhythms and grooves with rocked out yelled vocals provide tunes of the sort that take over my body and make it rock back and forth. It’s fairly fast paced and has a lot of energy, rolling along quite superbly. Seriously, I can’t think of one band to compare it to. Heh.
Ampere didn’t really hook me intially, but on further investigation I decided I liked their side too. They have five songs on here and play a fairly modern sounding brand of emo violence that you’ll be familiar with if you have been buying things on Level Plane records over the past few years. Harsh vocals and distorted Orchid-ish guitars scorch past at quite a rate, with the occasional melodic emo breakdown to change the pace. The vocals are screamed all out the whole time. I think if you appreciate stuff like Off Minor you will be very much into this band. I bet these guys play awesome and sweaty shows to 15 people who stand their with their arms folded.
Anyways, this is a good stuff featuring 2 contrasting hardcore bands. It’s put out by Moganono and they always put out good shit and are totally DIY with it, so yeah. You will probably know if you should be listening to this or not.
