There is footy on telly but I have no idea why because it was a no-brainer that this
was going to be a whitewash, so I am writing random record reviews instead. This 7″ by
some band I have never heard of contains 2 songs of varying sound and quality (though
more the former than the latter). The title track appears to be from an LP and is a
fairly straight up piece of airy-fairy-floaty-big-guitar suddenly hip shoegazing indie
rock. It doesn’t boast enough balls / noise to really kick it into the upper
echelons, coming across as sub-Interpol averageness. I can dig it for a couple of
listens, and enjoy the guitar sound as it washes out of the speakers, but overall it
doesn’t quite do enough. On the flip is “Razor On My Skin” which is melodic and has an
overload of fuzzy distortion and some keyboards, bringing to mind Built to Spill. It
is fairly short, but is good fun and makes this worth keeping.
Couple of points of note, the vinyl is yellowy gold coloured and looks a bit like how a
tree stump does when you cut it open (EMO!), and I hate it when ‘proper’ 7″ records (that
you can buy in a ‘proper’ record store) put a number on there telling you how rare it
is and the number is in the 1000’s. Rare as fuck, aye.
