I have a huge stack of obscure indie 7″ here that have been sent for review from various sources. And that’s dead cool. It’s nice to get 7″, especially ones I have never heard of. Sancho Panza is a prime example. I wonder if he is related to Panza from Panza Kick Boxing on the Amiga? That’d be ace.
This is a 2 song 7″ and it’s very peculiar. I guess it’s like an English version of Joan of Arc or something like that. Indie gone wrong! Mellow, downbeat tunes with fairly soft, male vocals wafting over the top of a variety of instrumentation, electronic farts and bleeps and fucked up brass just parping around peculiarly. The second song is called “Nuts In May” and seeing that title I was hoping for a cover version. Anyways, it’s more Joan of Arc style tomfoolery, being slow and tuneless and unusual, again throwing in other bits and pieces to vary it. I find it a very confusing track, infact I find this whole record disconcerting, it makes me lose my balance and sort of freaks me out.
I love Joan of Arc but I found this annoying for the most part. It’s still interesting though, I just wouldn’t want to listen to it too much. Check it out if you like the prospect of something a bit different.
