Oh dear, oh dear. Flailing Wail is the latest in the seemingly never-ending parade of MTVmo bands parading around the shores of the UK. Collective is really not the right place to send such a band’s single for review, because being in a group that sounds like a pale imitation of At the Drive In is not really our cups of multiple teas. The vocals are highly irritating, moving from wince inducing whiney singing to horrible yelling at the flick of a bad haircut. The music is chuggy, combining a mix of bad metal and worse melodic hardcore. Second track, “Chapter Nein”, makes me want to actually ingest the CD (and its case), wow. It is like they sent me a questionnaire saying “andy, list all your least favourite musical elements of hardcore” and then they wrote a song based on my response.
If you are a connoisseur of MTVmo you will no doubt be all over Flailing Wail’s shocking metal monstrosity. Collective, alack and alas, is hardly the worlds leading supporter of this style of music. If you’re going to send music like this for review, it is your own fault that it gets a bad one. WE DO NOT LIKE THIS KIND OF STUFF. Thanks. Shit, you can’t even sell this on Amazon. Flunky, FETCH ME MY SPOON.
