Waifle - And The Blood Will Come Down Like A Curtain - CD (2000)

What the fuck? This is not the Waifle that we all knew and barely tolerated. No longer the weedy emo punk that never went anywhere that fast, this is like they’ve spent the last few months injecting bleach into their brains in order to get all scary, employoying minor-key picking parts, atmospheric samples and an overall sound that’s somewhere between His Hero Is Gone and Reversal Of Man. So I suppose “emoviolence” is an easy enough catch-all diagnosis, with its vocals somewhere between a hoarse scream and a bellow and that hand-mangling guitar style that’s plenty fast and chock-full of discord.

The result? Well, it’s at least preferable to the Waifle of yore, but somewhere along the way they still manage to fall short, without a single moment where things really click and engage, leaving Waifle once more huffing and puffing with all their might with very little to actually show for it.
