Labels: Kranky
Review by: Chris Bress
Woah! They’ve changed a little bit, it’s much more dance, gone is the dark dubby post rock and more hip hop beats, scratching and traditional dub and electroclash (I said it!) are on this record. It still has a great dark undercurrent but it’s just much more danceable! Strange that Kranky have released this, I can imagine them signing them on the basis of one of the 7″s (on 5rc and GSL) and then being pretty shocked when they heard this. I think Outhud is an excellent boost to the label, they really give them a kick up the arse. The second track is fucking awesome, the beats get much louder and it sounds like it could almost be an Autechre track until a hung wall of post punk noise and feedback hit you! It’s like a cross of the Pop Group and that band Xlinsupreme (I haven’t spelt that right!). It sounds amazing! This track has a real house feel to it, and an almost 80s electro feel too I guess. It’s a real mish mash of influences and that’s why this record is so fucking great. The only bad bit on this record is the god awful ending to track five (which was my favourite track) which just sounds like Lemon Jelly (Sorry Andy!) meets fucking David Gray! Its piss!
