Amalgamated Sons of Rest - s/t - LP (2002)

Labels: Galaxia
Review by: Chris Bress

This is wicked! Will Oldham, Jason Molina and our very own Alasdair Roberts all team up (ooh an alt country supergroup!) and give us a great singer songwriter based album.

Firstly the packaging is very nice indeed. A strange picture of some fishermen (or sailors) being eaten and smashed up by a great big whale on a nice orange cover. The vinyl itself is etched on one side, but unusually it has a track right at the beginning of that side. I can’t hear very much Songs: Ohia in this record though, it comes across as a collaboration between Appendix Out and Palace, I can hear the Jason singing every now and then (I think!) but the other two seem to dominate it.

The tracks are quite reserved, and very dark indeed. Good music to have playing while your coming down from some hardcore drug taking or music to listen to before you get executed or something.

Everything about this record is nice, it’s a great all round package so go get it!
