Cat on Form - Untitled - CDR (2002)

Labels: self released
Review by: Luke Younger

Cat On Form are a new band from Brighton, who feature Steve Ansell who used to play in the Oedipus on guitar. This is a promotional demo cdr, and i’m not sure what they are going to do with the tracks, but they have a 7″ coming out very soon. The two tracks on here are good. The first, “Oh No! Telephone Rings” is quite melodic and kind of finishes where the Oedipus left off, but with a more straight ahead urgency to it. The second track is more reminiscent of what they sounded like when I saw them, which brings in guitarist Dan’s screaming, proving a good backing to Steves jittery vocals. Musically reminsicent to bands like 12 Hour Turn and a lot of those twinkly screamo bands that Andy likes, but with a kind of Wire-esque post-punk slant. The band will be playing near you soon enough, and if this sounds like your kind of thing, then definatley check the 7″ when it comes out.
