Here’s a new one of sorts on Level Plane. Apparently Get Fucked actually first played as a band a decade ago, didn’t last that long, but reformed to make this record. That’s not always a good thing, but in this case it was worth it. Get Fucked blast through 8 tracks of hyper hyper hardcore played in a rather ramshackle fashion and attached to barely audible scratchy vocals that have been brutalised to give them an effect similar to that achieved by Honeywell. Of course, no other band has ever released a similar record to Honeywell that is anywhere near as good, and Get Fucked aren’t about to change that, but they do a good solid job on this 10 inch of biting your ear off and making a searing racket in a similar fashion to them pioneers of old. Every now and again they do restrain themselves on stuff like the more straight forward “Exciting Irish Nativity” which pulses and grooves in a familiarly emo violent fashion, whilst the vocals are just mushed out. I expect that the singer has got the microphone rammed firmly in his mouth and is falling around a lot whilst in the process off coughing up blood, lungs, and other internal organs. I lose track of which song as which as they don’t print lyrics (and you don’t have a hope in hell of deciphering what they are yelling about), but I think “Tires, Tires, Globally” is the definitive track on here, it drives along at an incendiary pace and I am not quite sure how everyone in the band manages to keep it together. I guess that’s why it finishes so suddenly.
Whilst not the most original or genre defining of records, Get Fucked do hit with a punishing force, keep me interested by compacting it all into 10 inches rather than 12, and dispense a noise that will appeal to folks into this kind of hardcore. Sorted. Also, it must be pretty cool to be in this band because when someone asks you what your band is called, you can tell them “Get Fucked”. Ace.
