Ok, well I saw lots of bands yesterday, and this band I have to admit didn’t rock me quite as hard as some of the bands did, but they did grab my attention with their originality. So I bought myself a 7 inch and now it’s on its third spin…
Right first off there are two tunes here, on opaque snot coloured wax.. nice.. but it’s one of the those bastard big hole records where you need to put a little plastic circle in the middle.
Ok im digesting it stylistically now, First impression I got was riffy post hardcore, but then the songs cascade into more complex repeated riffs with the odd abrasive note thrown in, similar to some of the earlier Party of Helicopters stuff on the guitar work here. The bass pops in and out of the riffs in a funky way, which adds another interesting layer the record. It definately rocks in a way similar to some of the later bands on the famous/infamous Gravity label from the US, the vocals reminding me of Clikatat Ikatowi and/or Festival of Dead Deer in places, But it also has a strong Dischord records post punk sound throughout.
Not amazingly hard hitting release but it has got promise for sure, pick this up anyway, I’m sure as the band progresses this song and mixes the complexity up with mature song writing skills youll get some kick ass noisy post punk.
