Saves the Day - Through Being Cool - CD (1999)

Labels: Equal Vision
Review by: Luke Younger

Picture the scene: I have been going to loads of gigs for the last six months. At at least half of them a really great emoish punk record was playing over the speakers. Racking my brains for ages trying to figure out who it was, it came on again at a recent Peel all-dayer. I caught a glimpse of the CD case in the DJ booth and it was “Through Being Cool” by Saves the Day, a record that I had seen so many times but just blatantly ignored. Ain’t it always the way?

Anyway, this is easily the wussiest record I have in my collection. It makes The Get Up Kids look like The Locust, but what a fucking wussy record this is! Mmmmmm so many fantastic tunes like the disgracefully titled “Holly Hox, Forget Me Nots” and “Third Engine”. It’s all very Samiam esque, and looks set to be a firm favourite on my speakers for a while. Great record.
