Movielife do the poppy fast paced melodic hardcore thing. Along the lines of Saves The Day and a lot like Fastbreak. And then there are some parts (especially in the vocals and lyrics) that remind me a lot of the Get Up Kids. Combine that with the faster style musical pace of Lifetime, and you just about have this band.
So yeah its good. “10 Seconds Too Late” and “Single White Female” are really good in fact. But as a whole, the album is missing something. Or maybe its not. I have mixed feelings about this. Sometimes it strikes me as a bit generic. Not really attempting anything new. But then they’ll do something that will impress me. Like “Once In a Row” for example, which is just one really incredible song. A glorious poppy emotional punk ditty with Get Up Kids style vocals and musically its great too. If only the rest of the album was as good as this! Maybe I’m being too critical, because there is nothing wrong with this band at all.
Also, I do think that this will appeal to a wide range of people – I could imagine people who like Lifetime, Get Up Kids, Saves The Day, Fastbreak, Kid Dynamite, ET:11 or possibly even Gameface will dig the Movielife. As they are the perfect combination of all those bands, yet not quite as good as any of them. However, I’m almost positive most people will love this record, because there are some kick ass songs on here. However there are also a couple of average ones. Look basically, if you like any of the aforementioned bands you should probably consider checking these guys out because they are good. Just don’t expect to be blown away.
