Labels: perpetual motion machine
Review by: Andy Malcolm
I don’t know if this is a full release or a demo or what, but Paul from that label with the really long name sent it to us and insisted (at knife point) that I review it, so I guess I will. On this CDR Snack Truck play 3 songs, and at the end of the 3rd one my CD player locks up for a moment. The rest of the 8ish minutes is filled with insanity, the first song sounds like nothing I have heard since Witching Hour polluted my brain in 1999, this is just pure evil screamo with so many classic elements that made this genre actually fun to listen to. The vocals are screeched like somebody has castrated the singer and they riff off evil vampire guitars and the drums spiral around in a rip-roaring fashion, it’s Honeywell in the 25th Century all over again! Joyous to hear a band nail this sound so spectacularly for the first time in what seems like, oh, 3 or 4 years.
There are two more weird yet wonderful “tunes”. The second is odd in that the ‘singer’ squawks like a chicken over gothy industrial screamo riffage before it has what sounds like some kind of strange Chinese instrument all chiming around then OMG OOP SCREAMO!! back comes the yelling and all that. Then the third song has an intro where I seriously have no idea what is going on, I think they wanted to recreate that bit where Honeywell go “Hey, this is Ryan and Bobby! With drums and the guitar! Fuck off!” (or WHATEVER) but with a Japanese girl doing it. Um, ok. After that, I am a bit lost.
Snack Truck!
