This is fantastic. Just a total party piece of an LP. I would listen to this, get stupid drunk, and dance around my bedroom. If only I had some beer.

Soophie is eight kids from Little Rock Arkansas (featuring Nate Powell of the AWESOME ‘Walkie Talkie’ zine – get this shit), and they make a melodic punky rock racket across this DIY as fuck LP! Just check the hand made, home painted covers and stuff. Gotta love it. Comparisons are not the easiest. It’s got the melodic hardcore, “˜gang’ elements of bands like Avail, it’s got the quirkiness and excited vocals of Former Members of Alfonsin (or if Atom [sans package] was in a proper band), and overall it just feels so fresh and upbeat. They tend to mess around with lots of stuff on this record too, Cinderblock has some record scratching and a bit of a simple Beastie Boys type feel to it in places (for real!), but blended with more basic melodic punk. Then there is ‘Mean Streak’ which is cheesy, big hair rock ‘n’ roll with silly vocals to match, and the coolest chorus and hand claps. Ok, they also do a cover of ‘Wannabe’, but hey. It’s pretty cool. Heh. For the most part though, it’s the quirky, catchy melodies that exist on this slab of wax, and it’s all good.D

I think this may have come out on CD on another label a while back, but never mind. It’s here on vinyl now and it’s the real rock. Some people (like me) will love it, some will hate it’s guts. Rockin’, I rarely listen to melodic punk stuff, but this is irresistible.
