Le Force - Le Fortress - CD (2004)

Labels: Wantage USA
Review by: Kunal Nandi

Couple a double-guitared, mostly instrumental approach with a propensity towards ludicrous mock-cock-prog-rock songtitles (e.g. “œVictory Runs Through Our Blood Like Ice In the Caves Of Midnight”, “œSometimes Everybody Needs A Tissue (Trilogy)”) and you’ve got a veritably certifiable half-hour of power strongly reminiscent of The Fucking Champs, a notion further reinforced by the presence of a Fucking Champ (Tim Green) on knob-twiddling duty.

This means that it sounds like Le Force have even borrowed the same instruments that The Champs use, what with the similar tones utilised throughout. But what am I complaining about? I love The Fucking Champs, or rather, I admire them. I don’t think anyone could truly love a band so deliberately technical and ironically arch. I think that makes sense. But even then, it certainly isn’t fair to dismiss Le Force as mere copyists, as their songs are much more propulsive, being less technical, and using more barre-chords as opposed to having free-wheeling guitar solos endlessly ploughing into each other, but anyway, this is great stuff!
