Eaves - Höhenangst - CD (2005)

Labels: Wild Zero
Review by: Alex Deller

Hailing from some town called Aachen; Eaves are here to add to the already bloated folder of evidence proving there’s some dark corner of the German spirit guiding them toward stomach-churning, wall-of-noise hardcore; and while they’re tramping down a well-worn path that’s provided more misses than hits lately, it’s still a pleasure to hear a band pull things off with suitable intensity once in a while.

Each of the nine tracks are played with an apparently tireless energy, powering through each one and onto the next before you’ve even had time to pick up your teeth or untangle the last straggling riff from your throat, coming across much like Envy did on their earlier releases, though minus much of the prettiness and beefed up to hulkish proportions with a diet of protein shakes and nine-hour gym sessions. They’re not quite up there with the greats just yet (Acme, Carol, Systral circa theirFever] record”¦), but this is solid, ruthlessly punishing stuff, and if these kids ratchet up the brutality a notch or three for their next release then maybe some of us could feel a touch less sore about the likes of Takaru and Shikari calling it quits”¦
