Dead City - No Faith In Fiction - CDR (2005)

Labels: self released
Review by: Damien Mills

Bit of an odd one this, knew IId heard the name before but couldn’t think where – they did a split with Funeral Diner. I also found something telling me it was people who were in Blacklisted and Half Acre Gunroom which overall is a weird and apparently otherwise unrelated set of bands, but useful in games of hc trivia if someone asks you to link Hatebreed to Portraits of Past…

So yeah, musically this could have been pretty much anything, which is strangely refreshing, to be able to go into it not fully knowing what you are going to get…

So on eventually pressing play and hearing the damn thing I was greeted by…silence, at least for a bit anyway, turns out it’s one of these slow building ambient metal things, sort of Isis/Supermachiner-y, quite haunting with lots of keyboards and effects, for all that though there’s even some quite fast stuff on here that somehow manages to keep this dark mood.

Ok, so this isn’t a style I’m that familiar with but I quite enjoyed this and I’m sure the millions of Hydrahead kids that there seems to be recently will find this quite exciting too, overall worth a spin…
