Modern Machines - The Ergs - split - 7

Now I’m not the #1 fan of punk bands covering old songs, but both these bands do a good job on here at the tunes they take on, and knock out one of their own rather well too. Modern Machines tear through “Bus Stop” in the style of a fast and melodic punk band. Nothing special but its good enough. I’m much more taken by “She Doesn’t Know That She’s Alone”, a rock’n’rolling punker that to my untrained ear borrows a bit from Husker Du and a bit from something else more straight forward. The vocals are spot on (and rather Husker-esque indeed), the song is catchy and the band jams it out. The LP on Onion Flavored Records is really good, I’d recommend this band to anyone who likes good melodic punk.

The Ergs are sloppy and fun pop punk of the kind my buddy Simon would appreciate. Really down to earth and bouncy. Not much you can say about this kind of music. Great vocals, verse-chorus, sub 2 minutes. Quality. They then race through “Not A Second Time” in fine fettle. Good fun.
