Last Kiss - Wreck of Old 98 - split - 7

This release continues the trend of good DIY emo / hc seeping out of the UK of late. Last

Kiss is a relatively new band and they offer up a lengthy song that has two parts judging

by the title, though its not completely easy to tell. Musically they have a really neat

style that harks back to the mid 90s emo of bands like Policy of 3 and so forth – basically

lots of noisy yet melodic guitar riffage and strong rhythms that keep you swaying. The

vocals veer between nice and understated talking (very much like Bob Tilton) and some less

appealing screamy shouts, but overall they don’t detract from the music too much. These

guys seem to be getting a bit of Tribute comparison at the moment too, so I dug out my old

Tribute stuff for the first time in a thousand jahre. And you can hear it a bit, though the

Trib were perhaps a bit more straightforward. Good to hear them again!

WOO98 roll through 3 roughly produced songs on their side, changing things up early on with female vocals over widdly mid-west emo indie guitars, cripes! Its aces, but it was a little unexpected. They then explode into the fast yelling and guitar playing to convince me that I was actually listening to the Woo Tango clan. This song was called “Anarchism Begins WIth A Hug”. Aww. Anyway, the blast through a couple more songs, varying the pace between belting and calm to great effect. These songs are a match for the ones on the 12″, and make for good listenin’.
